Les Mason Exhibition
Design: Les Mason
Studio: Les Mason Graphic Design
Date: 1974

This catalogue cover marks an important moment for Australian graphic design. By 1974, thirteen years after his arrival from the US, Les Mason had already developed a formidable reputation as one of the profession’s most formidable practitioners. His burgeoning studio boasted a roster of clients the envy of his colleagues, and alongside this commercial work, he undertook the art direction of Australia’s first food and wine magazine, Epicurean. The paintings exhibited at Realities had graced the pages of Epicurean, and sold out on the opening night. By placing the ephemeral and marginalised world of magazine graphics within the context of the art gallery, Mason had blurred the lines between art and design.
