Gallery A Design group
Design: George Kral
Date: 1962

A Czech-born émigré, Kral was an innovative multi-disciplinary designer active in Melbourne from the 1950s until his untimely death in 1978. In 1958, Kral, along with Clement Meadmore and Max Hutchinson, established Gallery A, a combined showroom and art gallery which would become a fulcrum for Melbourne Modernism. Kral designed the interiors and logotype (shown here) for Gallery A, eventually running his own design group within Gallery A’s second location on Toorak Road, South Yarra.
